Yesterday after my theatre class, we decided to head to Abbey Road to recreate the famous Beatles cover. We ran into quite a few obstacles. One was nature: The sun sets here around 3:50, we get out of class at 3:20, and it’s about a 25 minute tube ride to Abbey Road. So first of all, the picture is a bit dark. Our second obstacle was the fact that Abbey Road is a bustling street, and you have to wait for cars to go and then rush the picture. So, it’s not a great picture because we had to rush. But we got it anyways!

To be honest, I have no idea why this place is so well known. I had it on my list because it was just a name I associated with “famous things in London” but it’s just another part of London. There are some theaters and it has a pretty busy nightlife, but nothing you can’t find other places in London. In fact, I didn’t even know I had been there. A few weeks in to the semester I was talking to someone about this blog and how I needed to figure out where Piccadilly Circus is, when they explained to me its an area we visit all the time and is only about 10 minutes away.
I haven’t gone inside yet, but one of the first things I did was trek to the site of the Royal Wedding. Not terribly exciting, but it’s cool to say I’ve been there now.

After visiting Buckingham Palace I realized how important it is that I find and woo Prince Harry immediately. While the palace was ornate and seemed very delicate, it actually seemed like the kind of place I could live in. I’ve since visited Versailles and today I went to Kensington Palace, but they both pale in comparison to Buckingham Palace

The view from the London Eye is one of the best in London. We went at the start of the semester, and it was a good bonding experience since we were all getting to know each other. From the top you can see the Thames, MI6 (James Bond’s place of work), The Gherkin, multiple famous bridges, Big Ben, and Parliament.

Well, I’ve sort of done this one. I went to Venice, but I didn’t get to my old neighborhood. I might go back with family and we’d probably do that. This trip was very spur of the moment. A friend told me she found reasonable airfare to Venice that weekend, so we just decided to go. Just like that. It was really exciting. Venice is probably my favorite place that I travelled to this semester. It was a nice weekend getaway, and I really like the group of friends that I travelled with. Also, nothing in the world can compare to real Italian food. Or gelato. Just how much gelato did I eat that weekend, you ask? Let me put it this way: After one weekend we were “regulars” at one shop and the guy working there knew our order, and gave us extra Nutella. That should answer your question.

To be honest, there isn’t a lot to say about Stonehenge. But I do have a picture of making a human stonehenge with Katy and Signe with Real Stonehenge in the background, so that’s cool.

One could certainly say I’ve seen my fair share of London Theatre so far this semester. First of all, I’m taking a class called “Intro to Theatre in London” and we’ve seen a show almost once a week. To be honest, I didn’t like a lot of the shows. They were all very small, save for a few. My favorite for this class was one called “One Man, Two Guvnors” and it has to be the funniest show on the West End. Outside of class, I’ve seen the following shows:

Outside the Old Vic Theatre with Robert Sheehan (the star of Misfits) and Katy.
For my ten day fall break, three of my flatmates and I travelled to Nice and Barcelona. We first went to Nice, by way of Marseilles. Nice was absolutely gorgeous. Famous for its pebble beaches, it lived up to its hype. We spent our days at the beaches (even though it was a bit cold) and the rest of the time eating. Actually, we slept a lot too. The beds in our hostel were easily the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. While there, we also spent a day in Monte Carlo. Unfortunately it was a Sunday so quite a few things were closed, but the casinos were open! We wanted to gamble at the main casino, just to say we did. But within 30 seconds of entering it became clear that it was not a casino for a group of 18 year old girls who had never gambled, so we left. Next door there was an “American Games Casino” with lots of slot machines so we went there. I just wanted to say I had gambled in Monte Carlo, so I was fine with it. However, the system of using them was so confusing that two of the girls just left without using the machines. My friend Katy and I were determined, however. We finally figured it out, and I spent 10 Euros, and lost 9. Oh well. I kept the receipt that says I won 1 Euro at the casino, because that proof that I was there is worth more than one euro.
